Solving the Problem

The Problem:

Homeowners are struggling to figure out who to call to repair a broken appliance, and whether it is best to just replace them. This dilemma has quite an easy solution.

The Solution:

There is a need for an app that aids in the process of repairing/replacing broken home appliances. This would include virtual visits as well as in-app technology that will allow users to send a picture to specialists and receive a prompt response on what needs to be done. If the repair can be done easily, then users will be given access to a tutorial video on how to fix their broken appliance. If the verdict is that it needs to be replaced, the best deals will be presented, and you will be able to order directly from the app. If it can be repaired, but needs special tools, users will be able to schedule visits by hand-selected professionals. With COVID-19, a special tool renting service will be provided where if the person does not want anyone in their house, the app will ship them what they need so they can do the repair themselves.

  1. Hi Erick!
Like I mentioned in previous posts, I like the opportunity you have identified here! I think you have a really fleshed out idea; an app would be perfect for this opportunity. You have thought about every need that a consumer might have. I especially like the idea that consumers can get an answer right away from what they should do with the appliance. It is incredibly frustrating to wait for an expert to give an estimate of the damage. I like the addition of providing a tutorial for a problem that is easily fixable!

  2. Hey Erick, just wanted so say that I really like your idea and this is a very big opportunity. I feel like an app that has independent contractors in one place for needs such as repairs and tools is a genius idea. As a college student who is currently away from home, having an app that I can rely on in case of an emergency is very helpful and I believe has an opportunity to be very useful to certain markets. I also like how you explained how due to COVID-19, self-repair is an option.

  3. Hi Erick!
I really like your idea and I think there is a great opportunity here. I am currently renting an apartment in gainesville and with COVID 19 it has been a problem to get maintenance to my house to fix repairs. I want to learn how to fix my own household problems incase this continues to happen. Videos and tutorials are a great way to explain different processes in a simpler way. I think you have thought carefully about different consumer needs and how to meet them in a safe and easy way. Keep up the good work!

  4. Erick,
Your appliance app idea is great. One thing to take care of up front is if the customer feels like they got bad advice or poor instructions and did further damage to their appliance. They need to understand and accept responsibility if there are any unintended damages. This can be done by having popups that say the use of the app is acceptance of your liability terms of agreement. There are some dummies out there and one of them will electrocute themselves because they didn't flip the breaker. One lawsuit against your company could put it out of business without protective measures put in place ahead of time.

  5. Hi Erick!
I think this idea is a great solution for people who need quick and easy help for their appliances, without having to go back to the place where they bought the appliance or wait on big appliance companies to help fix it. This idea is super convenient and very much along the lines of Uber through its usability. Great idea!
